Compassionate medical and allied health care based in Jan Juc on Victoria’s Surf Coast.

The Karuna-maya story

Our name stems from the ancient language of Sanskrit, with ‘Karuna’ meaning compassion, while ‘maya’ represents the embodiment of that sentiment.

Situated 100 metres from the beautiful Jan Juc cliff tops on Wadawurrung country, Karuna-maya Medicine is a part of an immediate environment that, through its very nature, promotes holistic health and healing.

Our reputation for providing compassionate, integrated healthcare to patients spans more than two decades. A large part of creating this vision is owed to Dr Darren Fahroedin, who established Karuna-maya Medicine when he took full ownership of the former Jan Juc Medical Centre in 2002.

In July 2023, after twenty-one years of running the practice, Darren decided to take a step back and handed the business over to another long-standing member of the team: general practitioner and local resident, Dr Millie Glen.

Today the entire Karuna-maya team continues to drive the standards of quality and compassionate care for Jan Juc and Torquay’s residents young and old, whilst writing the next chapters in the Karuna-maya Medicine story for years to come.

Consisting of experienced and respected general practitioners, a dietitian, podiatrist, physiotherapist, medical hypnotherapists, quality caring nurses, and a friendly and welcoming admin staff – the Karuna-maya team is here to offer complete care to all our patients.
